Biography
Kelly Connell is currently pursuing a degree in music education as well as an additional major in Human Rights Studies at the University of Dayton. She has been a member of the Symphonic Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Wind Chamber Ensemble, the Flyer Flute Ensemble, University Orchestra, and the Pride of Dayton Marching Band.
Native of East Lyme, Connecticut, Connell has been involved with over 40 different music programs prior to her High School graduation. Her flute studies began in 1999 with private studies under Nancy Chaput, and continued with Cheryl Six, and Laura Rakel Pirruccello until August of 2010 where, to this day, she continues under Diane Gilley.
Connell has participated in numerous honors bands throughout the East Coast. In 2009 she was privileged to perform as principal flute in New England Youth Wind Ensemble and Connecticut Eastern Regional Wind Ensemble as part of the CMEA annual conference. In addition to ensemble participation, Connell has also been active in serving as director, band assistant, conductor, cantor, leader, and founder in several organizations in New London county during her high school career.
Since 2005, she attended the annual Connecticut Association Annual State Flute Convention, the New York City Annual Flute Convention, and in 2008 the National Flute Convention where she had the honor of studying with such notable flutists as Holly Hofmann, Hubert Laws, Jeanne Baxtresser, Tracy Harries, Rhonda Larson, and Sir James Galway.
Connell has worked as a childcare provider in Southeastern Connecticut for the past four years. Other work experience includes serving as a festival counselor at Hartwick College Summer Music Festival and as an English tutor in Shanghai, China at Fudan University. Currently, she is a private flute instructor and is a band assistant at Holy Angels School in Dayton, Ohio.
Connell serves as Sergeant at Arms for Sigma Alpha Iota chapter Delta Sigma, Corresponding & Recording Secretary for University of Dayton’s NAfME chapter, and is an active member of the National Flute Association. In addition to music, she enjoys traveling abroad, and serving as a personal fitness trainer and exercise advisor.
